“How do you respond to and resolve civil complaints?”
“A while back residents had to fill in an application to submit their complaints. Now all you have to do is call the 120 Gyeonggi Call Center or follow a simple process at the nicely decorated Public Service Center to get your opinion heard.”
Thirty aspiring reporters visited Vice Governor Kim clad in jackets that read “PRESS” on their backs. Their eyes glistened as they anticipated replies. They jotted down Kim’s response in their notebooks and did not forget to take pictures of the government office with their cameras and mobile phones.
Thirty members of the Gyeonggi Junior Reporters, launched ten days prior, visited the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Office on September 18. Students and parents from Suwon, Yongin, and Gwangju gathered together to participate in the “Government Office Review for Children” event prepared by the provincial government. They launched an investigation of their own as they browsed around the office in small groups.◇ Vice Governor Kim Seong-ryeol takes commemorative photos with the Gyeonggi Junior Reporters. ⓒ G-News Plus News / Yu Je-hun
They watched a promotional video on Gyeonggi Province and listened to an official’s short introduction on the functions of the provincial office, after which they visited the emergency situation room and learned about the office’s response system for natural disasters. They went to the vice governor’s office for a chat afterwards.
Vice Governor Kim told the young reporters: “You are the owners of the government office. I hope you all maintain your interest in Gyeonggi Province’s current affairs. I am counting on your articles to promote our region.” He handed out USBs containing Gyeonggi Province’s promotional video to encourage the young aspiring journalists.
Their journalistic activities continued at the Public Service Center. They visited the center within the provincial government complex, taking a closer look at its functions and processes. They were also given the opportunity to answer 120 Call Center civil complaint calls after a short briefing.◇ The reporter group experiencing provincial government administration with Gyeonggi Provincial Council Chairperson Yun Wha-sub. ⓒ G-News Plus News / Yu Je-hun
The last ‘scoop’ for the future reporters was the Gyeonggi Provincial Council. As he welcomed them at the entrance, Council Chairperson Yun explained , “The council is an important institution that reviews important policies on Gyeonggi Province. I hope you all learn something about what the council does.”
“I will be the chairperson today. Now, let the meeting begin!”
The group of reporters took their places in the chairperson’s seat, at the podium, and on the floor to participate in a mock meeting. Jeong Seok-hyeon (4th grade Baekhyun Elementary, Yongin), who took his position behind the podium, said with a smile, “It’s a strange feeling seeing something you watch on television for real. But I am happy I got a chance to see it for myself.”◇ Go Ye-eun (4th grade Ogeum Elementary, Gunpo) is an aspiring journalist. ⓒ G-News Plus News / Yu Se-hun
Go Ye-eun (4th grade Ogeum Elementary, Gunpo) visited the government building with her parents. “My dream is to become a reporter. My school teacher recommended me to the Gyeonggi Junior Reporters. Watching people work in the government office was really exciting.”
She also added that she would like to listen closely to neighbors and write about their troubles during her time with the group of reporters.
