Gyeonggi Provincial Office is planning to launch the “SUPER SKI in GYEONGGI-DO” campaign with the goal of attracting more than 2,000 Taiwanese tourists.
According to the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization (“GTO”), about 400 Taiwanese tourists visited ski resorts in Gyeonggi Province between December 2011 and March 2012 through its introduction.
The GTO expects that the number will increase to more than 2,000 during the same period this winter.
The Gyeonggi Provincial Office and the GTO (President Hwang Jun-ki) have jointly developed a program entitled SUPER SKI in GYEONGGI-DO and formed a consortium with sixteen leading travel agencies in Taiwan to push ahead with the program.
The rapid increase in the number of incoming tourists visiting ski slopes in the province is attributable to the geographical proximity of Gyeonggi Province to Seoul.

Gyeonggi Province is close to Seoul and easily accessible through a convenient transportation network. The GTO persuaded leading Taiwanese travel agencies, such as Lion Travel and Cola Tours, to work with it under the said program, utilizing the advantages that the province has to offer.
The GTO plans to dispatch a delegation composed of representatives of the Gyeonggido Tourism Association, Yangji Pine Resort, Everland, Skin Anniversary, Korean Folk Village, Woongjin Play Doci, and Goyang City to Taiwan to carry out activities aimed at attracting more Taiwanese tourists to the region.
The GTO also plans to take part in the 2012 International Travel Fair (ITF), which is the largest expo held in Formosa, to publicize the program, while making efforts to expand the target to people in areas close to Taiwan, i.e. Guangzhou and Hong Kong.
Commenting on the program, GTO President Hwang Jun-ki said, “Over the past three years, the number of Taiwanese tourists visiting this country has increased by more than 10%. We are planning to carry out strategic marketing aimed at niche markets to attract more tourists from Taiwan and Southeast Asian countries throughout the year.”
