Gyeonggi Provincial Delegation led by Gyeonggi Governor Kim Moon-soo attracted USD 20 million of investments for the next five years from Scania, Sweden-based world’s leading manufacturer of heavy trucks.
At 11 a.m. on July 24, local time, Governor Kim paid a visit to the global head office of Scania in Stockholm and concluded an investment MOA with Christian Levin.
Following the MOA conclusion, Scania will invest USD 20 million for the next five years in relocating its regional head office of Scania Korea Ltd. to Dongtan Industrial Complex in Hwaseong and building a large-scale maintenance shop by May 2014.
Prior to the agreement, Scania discussed with Gyeonggi Province, Hwaseong City, and Land and Housing Corp. (LH) over relocating to Dongtan Industrial Complex in September 2011, and signed a lease agreement in June 2012.
Mr. Levin, who welcomed the provincial delegation, introduced Scania in his welcoming speech, saying “Scania is the first European manufacturer invested in Korea. We established Scania Korea Ltd. in 1995 and tightened its grip on the heavy equipment and truck sector in a short period.”
“Currently, we are growing in Asian markets at a rapid pace. I would like to express my gratitude to Gyeoggi Province for selecting the best investment area in our stage of new advancement. Our corporate value is “customer first.” By relocating the head office to Dongtan, we will be closer to our customers,” he added.

Governor Kim Moon-soo said, “Scania’s cars are well-known to Koreans. It’s a great pleasure to see the manufacturing process in person in the global head office.” Gyeonggi Province has the regional head office and factories of Hyundai and Kia Motors, and automobile-related companies including Volvo, Bosch, Delphi, and Faurecia as well. Therefore, it’s an excellent decision for Scania Korea Ltd. to relocate to Gyeonggi Province and to build a new maintenance shop in the province.”
“We will put every effort into supporting administrative affairs and enhancing investment environment so that Scania can successfully advance its business,” he added.
If the new large-scale maintenance shop will have completed in May 2014, it is expected to create a total of 195 jobs including 25 directly-employeed in Korea. In particular, as the company will use automobile parts manufactured in Korea, it is forecasted to contribute to the advancement of Korea’s commercial vehicle industry through competition in products and services as well as win-win growth with domestic SMEs in the automobile parts industry.
Meanwhile, at the agreement signing ceremony, Scania introduced to Gyeonggi Provincial Delegation its new Streamline model truck, which will be released in Korea in September this year.
