The delegation of Gyeonggi Province headed by Governor Kim Moon-soo, which is visiting the United States, signed on September 25 (local time) an LOI with a business identified only as “A” for its investment in Gyeonggi Province during a ceremony held at the office of said business in West Point, Georgia.

Under the LOI, the US business will build a factory in Jangan Industrial Complex in Hwaseong for the production of car door trims and seats for supply to Kia Motors. The business will reportedly invest tens of millions of dollars for the facility over the next five years.

The Gyeonggi Provincial Office expects the investment to create about 200 new jobs.

“I am happy that the company, which is a world-class business, decided to invest in our province. We will provide positive support so that the business can carry out the investment plan earlier,” Governor Kim Moon-soo said in reaction to the signing of the LOI.

After the signing ceremony, Mr. Kim Moon-soo paid an inspection visit to Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia (KMMG), and then took part in an informal meeting with Koreans in Atlanta.

At least 3,000 employees are producing 360,000 cars a year at KMMG whose lot area is 890 ha and whose total floor space is 650 acres. Kia Motors spent 1.1 trillion won to build the factory, which was completed in February 2010.

A total of 29 subcontractors (hiring 7,000 employees) use Kia’s new facility.

On September 26, the delegation will go to Los Angeles to pay a visit to YouTube Space and attend a Korean festival held in the city.
