EGKr’s glass factory in Paju completed

EGKr, a local corporation of NEG of Japan, which ranks third in the world in terms of market share in glass, has completed building an OLED glass factory in the Dangdong Foreign Investment Zone in Paju, Gyeonggi Province.
A ceremony held at 11:00 AM on October 2nd celebrating the completion of the work was attended by the following people: Governor Kim Moon-soo, Mr. Kwon Pyeong-o, Head of the Office of International Trade and Investment of MOTIE, Members of the National Assembly Hwang Jin-hwa and Yun Hu-deok, Paju Mayor Lee In-jae, Provincial Councilor Kim Gwang-seon, Chairman Park Chan-il of the Paju City Council, NEG Chairman Izutsu Yuzo, NEG President Arioka Masayuki, EGKr President Oishi Jun, LG Electronics Vice Chairman Koo Bon-joon, LG Display President Han Sang-beom, Gyeonggi Urban Innovation Corporation President Choi Seung-dae, Paju CCI Chairman Jang Dong-mun, etc.
NEG’s construction of the LCD/ OLED glass factory on the 40,623.4㎡ site in Dangdong Foreign Investment Zone in Paju is based on an MOU of USD 500 million to attract an investment as signed with Paju City in May 2012.
A Gyeonggi Provincial Official said that the country would be in an advantageous position in terms of development of the relevant technology and occupation of the world market on the back of NEG’s investment, especially considering that the world’s top five display businesses that own source technology for LCD glass production all operate within the country. In his celebratory speech, Governor Kim Moon-soo said, “With the attraction of the investment of NEG, which is famous for its technological prowess, the northern area of the province will be reborn as a cluster of OLED, which is the next-generation of LCDs.” It is hoped that NEG will contribute to the development of the local economy of Paju in addition to the development of the OLED industry.”
Based in the Shiga Prefecture of Japan, NEG ranks No.3 in the world for crystal glass production. It maintains factories in Malaysia, the United States, South Korea, Taiwan, China, and Germany and its annual sales come to JPY 338.2 billion (= KRW 3.6 trillion).
