The programs of the latter half of the 2013 Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale (GICB) such as Korea-Japan Glass Art Workshop and Korean Traditional Ceramic Mentoring Camp began on October 22 and will go on until November 17. ⓒ Gyeonggi G-News
The ceramic festivals of Icheon, Gwangju and Yeoju came to a successful close on October 20, after which the programs of latter half of the 2013 Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale (GICB) such as Korea-Japan Glass Art Workshop and Korean Traditional Ceramic Mentoring Camp began on October 22 and will go on until November 17.
At Icheon Cerapia where the GICB takes place, there will be the Korea-Japan Glass Art Workshop for a week from October 22 in which the glass studios of Nijima and Toyama participate. This will provide an opportunity to watch the blowing demonstration that is uncommon in Korea, as well as unique performances combining ceramics and glasses.
There are also the Mentoring Camp of the International Ceramic Workshop in which Korean leading artists and international mentees share the values of Korean ceramics, and an academic program Open Presentations that will go on until the November 10. As a workshop event, there is a three-day Healing Camp from October 24 with the participating artist Albert Par and the underprivileged, as well as Monk Hyowon’s lectures on temple food on November 6 and 13.
Along with these, there are other programs to be provided in Gwangju Gonjiam Ceramic Park such as Mosaic Academy making mosaic works with various materials such as glass and ceramics; a ceramic experience class Clay Play; Little Farmer Experience with the experience of a farm village; Primitive Experience of the Old Stone Age that can be enjoyed only at the Ceramic Park that is a historic site from the Old Stone Age; and other combined handicraft education programs such as Imaginative Art Storage and School in which children can play around freely in mud.
In the Gyeonggi Ceramic Museum of Gwangju Gonjiam Ceramic Park, there are Korea-China Ceramic Seminar with 44 Chinese ceramic masters and 28 Korean ceramic masters; Special Exhibition on Table Setting with Traditional Ceramics that interpreted the traditional ceramic table setting with a modern view at the Ceramic Hall; and Lighting and Gifts in which the visitors can find various ceramic gifts.
Yeoju Ceramic World where visitors can purchase handmade ceramics at a low price offers ceramics made by Korean artists at discounted prices until November 17 when the Biennale closes. The Yeoju Bandal Art Museum specialized for ceramic exhibitions will greet the visitors with various exhibitions such as Special Exhibition on Ceramic Livingware: Seven Ways to Set a Dinner Table, CeraMix Living Objet Competition, and Guest Country Exhibition: Norway.
Moreover, every weekend during the GICB, visitors can enjoy mud piling and mud play such as outdoors firing and raku firing. The free circular bus that connects Icheon Cerapia, Gwangju Gonjiam Ceramic Park and Yeoju Ceramic World will be extended to November 17 when the Biennale closes.
