Gyeonggi Province promotes overseas expansion of pharmaceutical and cosmetic companies in the industry following medical devices.

Gyeonggi Province hosted the Meeting of Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Manufacturers for the Convergence and Development of the Medical Industry on November 6 at the International Conference Hall in Gyeongg Provincial Office, with the participation of pharmaceutical companies, cosmetic manufacturers, officials of Gyeonggi International Medical Association (GIMA), Global Medical Business Center (GMBC) located in Almaty of Kazakhstan, and Kazakhstan Medical Training Center (KDMTC).

Pharmaceuticals and cosmetics are already being exported to many countries with the Korean Wave, but many barriers still exist. This meeting was held to seek ways to expand overseas markets for pharmaceutical and cosmetic manufacturers within the province, encouraged by the great achievement of the previous meeting for medical device companies.

Like the aforementioned meeting, the discussion produced plans such as reinforcing the role of GMBC that acts as a global base to promptly provide national data and overseas licensing information, and attracting the attention of overseas medical experts and buyers by setting up a massive booth in global exhibitions in alliance with Gyeonggi Province.

Gyeonggi Province considers domestic pharmaceuticals and cosmetics as well as medical services to have international competitiveness. In fact, a cosmetic product had entered an overseas market through a foreign patient who had visited a dermatologist in Gyeonggi Province.

Overseas medical trainees who visited hospitals in Gyeonggi Province will learn the clinical techniques as well as medical systems and devices based on pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and IT. If industries related with advance medical systems are used as a role model, the export channels will be established throughout the overall health and medical service industry.

“Following the case of medical devices, manufacturers of pharmaceuticals and cosmetics exchanged ideas actively and discussed various strategies for win-win growth,” said Park Chun-bae, director of the Gyeonggi Health and Welfare Bureau, as he explained the results of the discussion that day.
