Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation (GGCF) launched the Culture Connection Honor Society, a supporters’ association for culture and arts donations led by key figures of the business circles.

The GGCF hosted the opening ceremony of the Culture Connection Honor Society on November 7 in Yongin Nam June Paik Art Center. Over 40 key figures of the business, academic and cultural circles participated in the ceremony, including Gyeonggi Governor Kim Moon-soo, GGCF CEO Eom Ki-young, and Booyoung Group chairman Lee Joong-geun.

The Culture Connection Honor Society is a donation association made up of key figures with social influence and donation abilities. It will promote the GGCF’s major exhibitions and performances as well as collaborative social contribution activities through culture and arts.

Back in September, the GGCF had hosted the proclamation ceremony of Culture Connection, which is a donation campaign of culture and arts, to carry out social contribution activities by spreading donation culture and forming external cooperation networks.

Starting with the launching of the Honor Society that followed the proclamation of the Culture Connection, the GGCF will actively develop fund-raising projects by taking a step further from small regular donations and forming various donator clubs. The GGCF is planning to spread the donation culture and establish a frame for financial resources to develop culture and arts.

At the ceremony, the GGCF chairman and Gyeonggi Governor Kim presented appointment certificates to 24 members including Booyoung Group chairman Lee Joong-geun, Daekyo chairman Kang Young-Joong, LG vice president Kim Young-kee, Samsung vice president Kim Jun-sik, and National Agricultural Cooperative Federation Gyeonggi Branch director Cho Jae-rok. The members all enjoyed dinner together after visiting the Nam June Paik Art Center Prize Winner Exhibition that opened the day before.

“Sponsors for culture and arts are necessary even in economic difficulties,” said Governor Kim Moon-soo. “Culture and arts in Korea can only flourish by developing the donation culture like the Culture Connection. In some advanced Western countries, companies’ donations for culture and arts are as natural as the donations for welfare. I hope many exemplary companies actively participate in realizing noblesse oblige in Korea as well.”

He also added, “I hope Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation, with the oldest history among specialized cultural and arts organizations, succeed in its social contribution and donation campaign in collaboration with companies.”
