The Health and Medical Delegation from the Maritime Territory (Vladivostok, Ussuriysk, etc.) of Russia visited Gyeonggi Province on November 25 to learn advanced medical technology and increase interaction.

The Health and Medical Delegation from the Maritime Territory of Russia will visit hospitals and medical centers of Suwon, Gwangju, Goyang, Paju and Bucheon (LeeChunTek Hospital, Leon Wiltse Memorial Hospital, Catholic University of Korea St. Vincent’s Hospital, Sejong Hospital, Myongji Hospital) and medical device company (ISOL Technology) for four days, participating in various programs of Gyeonggi Province such as its excellent medical technology, hospitals, pharmaceuticals, medical device infrastructure and tourism resources.

Moreover, seven medical specialists in cardiovascular disorders, surgery, urology, orthopedics and neurosurgery from the Maritime Territory of Russia were invited by Gyeonggi Province, and they came to participate in the Gyeonggi Province medical training program (Global Healthcare Academy) for 4 weeks.

The delegation consists of total 10 members including Rupaeva Ekaterina, head of the human resources development and management department of the Ministry of Health in the Maritime Territory of Russia; relevant staff from the Ministry of Health in the Maritime Territory of Russia; representatives of hospitals such as Vladivostok Polyclinic 1, State Hospital 2, and Ussuriysk Hospital; and vice-president of Pacific National University Medical School.

This visit was an extension of the bond shared between Gyeonggi Province and Russia back in August when the Gyeonggi delegation (chaired by Gyeonggi Governor Kim Moon-soo) visited the Maritime Territory.

Back then, Gyeonggi Governor Kim Moon-soo suggested at the official dinner of Korea-Russia Medical Conference hosted by Pacific National University Medical School that representatives of hospitals in the Maritime Territory visit Gyeonggi Province. The Maritime Territory Health and Medical Delegation had responded positively toward that suggestion, and as a result they came to visit Gyeonggi Province after only three months.

Gyeonggi Province evaluated that this visit is significant in that they can reconfirm the friendly relationship between Gyeonggi and the Maritime Territory, and initiate cooperation.

In cooperation with Bucheon Sejong Hospital, Gyeonggi Province is also planning to conduct surgery free of charge for one child from the Maritime Territory suffering from heart disease. Popov, a twelve-year-old boy from the Maritime Territory, will fly to Gyeonggi Province on November 27 to undergo heart surgery at Sejong Hospital. Popov is suffering from patent ductus arteriosus and congenital heart disease (VSD) in which blood does not circulate smoothly due to a hole in the heart.

“The Russian Far East is a place with potential for development in the global medical industry due to its geographical proximity and constant demand for state-of-the-art medical technology,” said Park Chun-bae, director of Gyeonggi Health and Welfare Bureau. “We will do our best to expand the Korean Wave of medical care to all regions of Russia by enhancing intergovernmental cooperation and supporting private projects.”
