Gyeonggi Province seeks to vitalize social enterprises as a means by which to stabilize people’s lives and create jobs.

According to Gyeonggi Province, the number of social enterprises continues to increase and recently saw a dramatic upturn in number; however, most of of these operations would be burdened with deficits if not for government support. Moreover, a lack of networks and joint projects with other companies indicates an urgent need to establish a methodical support system for such initiatives as new market opening.

Thus, Gyeonggi Province will establish a growth-based ecosystem connecting related organizations and private associations, focusing on the Gyeonggi Small & Medium Business Center (GSBC), by building a customized support system for start-up to follow-up management and organizing a task force team. Exemplary cases will also be examined once a month.

The province will develop new markets through marketing support from such sources as large retailers and online channels, formulate an MOU with at least one large retailer within the first-half year, develop the “Big 10 Social Products” within the province, and expand entry into the Naver Gyeonggi Happiness Shop.

Gyeonggi Province will also find so-called “star companies” with high growth potential – based on sales, product/service quality and social contributions in the first-half year – and provide them with intensive consultation and promotion support.

The province is reviewing the possibility of providing the incentive of awarding priority rights over GSBC’s funds if a company is selected as a star company. This year, the target of management funds will also be expanded to village businesses and cooperative associations.
