Gyeonggi Province organized a disaster headquarters for the accident involving a ferry carrying primarily Ansan Danwon High School students, which began to sink at about 8:55 a.m. on April 16, and set out to determine rescue progress and implement necessary measures.

The province is maintaining contact with the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (CDSCH) and sent liaison officers to the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education and the disaster countermeasures headquarters of Ansan City.

The province wrapped up a meeting chaired by Gyeonggi Province Vice Governor Kim Hee-kyeom to establish countermeasures with relevant departments. Officials then immediately went to Ansan City to receive on-site status updates and to order the provision of support at the provincial level.
