Why not get out of the city and join a farming experience tour this summer to bask in nature while enjoying experiential learning activities?

The Northern Gyeonggi Provincial Government Office announced on July 24 that diverse customized experiential farming programs have been arranged at the Information Network Villages (INVILs) to attract visitors to places where they can enjoy pure nature during the summer vacation season.

With diverse programs in addition to the advantages of having beautiful natural environments such as Hantangang River and Yeoninsan Mountain, and being located near Seoul, the northern regions of Gyeonggi Province have become ideal destinations where people can enjoy scenic views, fun activities and fresh produce all together through one-night, two-day programs for families or featured one-day programs.

Some of the attractions of the one-night, two-day programs for families include: Pocheon Jidongsanchon Village where visitors have an opportunity to make pine nut bread and Gochujang (traditional Korean red pepper paste) and to see a 1000-year-old gingko tree; Pocheon Bidulginang Village where visitors can go rafting on the Hantangang River; and Gapyeong 9-Majigi Village where visitors can join a Healing Program and discover their true selves.

Gapyeong 9-Majigi Village offers a Forest Healing Program for Adults at Mt. Yeoninsan as well as an “Eco-enteering” Program through which youths can develop leadership skills. With programs for both children and adults, the village has gained popularity along with Yongchu Valley, where visitors can have fun in the cold water.

Integrated with the modern history of Korea, Paju Unification Village (located within the Civilian Control Zone) offers a unique one-day experiential program, entitled the Security Experience Program, in which visitors tour the 3rd underground tunnel and the Dorasan Observatory. Other villages operate programs that provide visitors with opportunities to enjoy such activities as making ceramics, making cheese, catching mudfish, horseback riding, harvesting corn, and making/enjoying steamed rice wrapped in a lotus leaves together with family members and more.

“The northern regions of Gyeonggi Province have many mountains and valleys so people can easily find places where they can relax and, at the same time, enjoy diverse experiential programs,” said Ryu Ho-yeol of the Planning and Budget Division. Ryu added, “I strongly encourage families to come and enjoy the experiential farming programs in which all family members can refresh their minds and bodies while learning about nature.”

A total of twelve INVILs are currently offering experiential farming programs in the northern regions of Gyeonggi Province. Reservations can be made online or by phone.
