The official residence of the Governor of Gyeonggi Province will be transformed from a cold and closed space into warm and open space for the residents of Gyeonggi Province in fulfillment of a promise made by Governor Nam to open the gubernatorial residence to the public.
Gyeonggi Province announced on August 19 that the official residence of the governor will be opened to the public for various purposes such as weddings hall and other events, and that it will first function as a wedding hall.
The official residence will be utilized as a wedding hall every Saturday from September 27 to November 1. Residents of Gyeonggi Province can apply for use of the venue from Aug 20 to 29.
Anyone who fulfills the criteria set by Gyeonggi Province can apply for use of the venue via the official website of the province (www.gg.go.kr). Applicants are required to send an email describing their wedding plans – including information such as motivation for applying for the venue, wedding date and wedding budget – to wedding@gg.go.kr. Successful applicants will be selected by a related committee.
This wedding program is especially geared for couples who want to have a small wedding ceremony with a maximum of 100 guests. The selected couples are required to attend a four-hour-long marriage education class offered by Gyeonggi Province, which will be held at the Gyeonggi Provincial Human Resource Development Institute at 9 a.m. on September 13.
The facilities of the official residence made available for wedding ceremonies include the banquet hall, kitchen, living room, and the 1,100㎡ quad; these can be used as a wedding hall, a waiting room for the bride, a traditional service room, and more. Ceremonies will be held once every Saturday from September 27 to November 1, and the selected couples can freely plan their weddings.
Gyeonggi Province also plans to utilize the official residence as a field trip destination for kindergarteners and elementary school students during weekdays until end of this year. In addition, a variety of programs involving utilization of the space for events – such as small concerts, plays, flea markets, poetry readings, and lectures – are being considered in terms of the best interests of the residents of the province.
“The official residence of the governor will be operated as a wedding hall, guest house, and as a community place for the residents of the Gyeonggi province on the basis of the core values of openness and communication.” said Lee Dae-jik, Head of the General Affairs Division. Lee added, “In particular, by opening the process of transforming the gubernatorial residence to the public, we expect to gain trust from the residents of the province, and that trust will serve as a stepping stone in the expansion of Ttabok Villages.”
