◇ Governor Nam introduces Chancellor Yun Duk-min of the Korea National Diplomatic Academy (KNDA)at the 21st Century Hope Gyeonggi Forum held at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Complex.
Governor Nam called on officials of the Gyeonggi Provincial Government to pay keen attention to local diplomacy with a global mindset so as to be prepared for the reunification of the two Koreas.
Gyeonggi Province held the 294th Gyeonggi Forum at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Complex at 9 am on August 25. Chancellor Yun Duk-min participated in the forum and delivered a lecture on the topic of the ‘Reunification and Safety Status of Korean Peninsula’.
Ahead of the forum, Governor Nam said, “Believing that officials of the Gyeonggi Provincial Government should have a global mindset, I requested Chancellor Yun to participate as a lecturer.” He emphasized, “Most overseas visits undertaken by Gyeonggi Province have so far focused on attracting foreign investment, but from now, we need to start paying keen attention to local diplomacy so as to be prepared for the reunification of the two Koreas.”
“Gyeonggi Province has been entrusted with an important duty in achieving reunification. Korea has suffered immensely whenever the circumstances and power balance in Northeast Asia shifted, and the recent state of affairs surrounding the Korean Peninsula is alarming.” added Governor Nam. “I call on the officials to undertake exchange with the leaders of each state and province of the US and China with a diplomatic mindset so as to be prepared for the reunification of the two Koreas.”
◇ At the 21st Century Hope Gyeonggi Forum held at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Complex, KNDA Chancellor Yun Duk-min delivers a lecture on the topic of ‘Reunification and Safety Status of Korean Peninsula’.
Explaining changes in the North, international situation trends, expected effects of reunification and the unification policy of Germany, Chancellor Yun commented, “For Korean reunification, we need to resolve conflicts within the South, and make use of international relations with China, Japan, and the US. Gyeonggi Province should take the lead in the preparation process for reunification.”
“While the North has ramped up its threats, the US and China have put the emphasis on us, South Korea. The US said South Korea is the central axis, and China has indicated its willingness to forge amicable relations with us, such as by President Xi Jinping’s welcome of President Park’s visit. If we make good use of such international circumstances, it will be a ‘lucky card’ for the reunification of Korea,” he said.
“A survey found that Koreans, while considering reunification quite important, have a low willingness to share the economic burden. Reunification, however, can be an opportunity for a new leap forward. Depending on our preparations, Korea’s reunification can be a springboard or a crapshoot. Gyeonggi Province should take the lead in preparing for the reunification,” Chancellor Yun added.
