Gyeonggi Province is holding the 2014 Gyeonggi Province Natural Ecology Photo Contest in order to spread awareness of the value of wild plants, animals, and beautiful nature.

Under the theme of ‘Story of Gyeonggi Province Embracing Nature,’ the lives of wild plants and animals, unique natural ecology, and the restoration of natural ecosystems are among the eligible topics for submission.

Applicants should upload their photo files to the contest website (http://www.ecologyphoto.co.kr) by October 31, along with basic information such as name, address and contact number as well as information about their work including the date and location of the photos.

Photos of protected species, endangered species, and natural monuments of Gyeonggi Province will receive extra points, while any applicant who has damaged the surrounding environment in the process of arranging a subject and background will be excluded from the contest.

Experts in biological resources and photography will be appointed to comprehensively review photos submitted for the contest; they will take relevance to the theme as well as creativity, image quality, and photographic elements into account. Prize-winning photos will be announced on the contest website on November 20, 2014, and winners will be informed individually.

There will be 16 winners in total, including a grand prize, second-place prizes, third-place prizes and participation prizes. A total of KRW 3.9 million in cash prizes including KRW 1 million for the grand prize will be awarded along with Gyeonggi Governor’s Award certificates.

“Award-winning photos will be displayed in high-traffic public places, and also used for biological resource education and natural environment promotion,” said one official of Gyeonggi Province.

Last year, Gyeonggi Province held exhibitions of award-winning photographs at Suwon Station, Uijeongbu Station, the Ansan Arts Center, Gimpo International Airport, and the Eco Exhibition Hall of Myeongji Mountain; these exhibitions were visited by approximately 39,000 people.
