With the goal of realizing USD 850 million in agricultural exports this year, Gyeonggi Province will hold broad-scale overseas sales promotion events though to December.
Starting in Kuala Lumpur and Penang, Malaysia, from August 23 to September 7, the province will hold overseas sales promotion events a total of eight times in eight countries.
The events include: a floricultural event will be held in Vladivostok, Russia, from September 19 to 28; a sales event for grapes and pears in Bangkok, Thailand, from September 15 to 24; and another event for grapes and pears to be held from September 19 to Oct 19.
From September 26 to October 10, a general food sales event will be held in Dhaka of Bangladesh, while a sales event for mushrooms is scheduled in New York of the US during the same period. A sales event for seasoned seaweed will be held in Tianjin, China, from October 23 to 29 and, at an event scheduled in Hong Kong for mid-December, fresh eggs will be introduced to customers.
Gyeonggi Province also plans to hold a variety of programs during these promotional events including: press conferences with reporters of local TV channels involved in advertising and promoting Gyeonggi Province agricultural products and major media organizations; opening ceremonies with buyers and journalists attending; and food tasting events. In addition, demonstrations of gimbap, tteokbokki, and kimchi preparation, using various agricultural products as ingredients, as well as free-sample stands, will be offered so that overseas customers can experience and participate in Korean food culture.
“Even though there have been difficulties in exports due to the contraction of the global economy and Japan’s weak yen policy, we expect an increase in the export of agricultural products with the increase in awareness thanks to the Korean Wave, and we will undertake various marketing efforts to vitalize exports,” said an official of Gyeonggi Province.
