After 10 years of preparation, a forest healing space opens its doors on October 10 in Gyeonggi Province.

Gyeonggi Province announced that the Gyeonggi Jat-Hyanggi Pureunsup Forest Recreation Park, for which construction started in 2005, celebrates its grand opening on October 10.

Comprised of comprehensive forest recreation facilities for forest healing and forest experiences, the Gyeonggi Jat-Hyanggi Pureunsup Forest Recreation Park has been created on a 153-hectare site around Chungnyeong-ro in Sang-myeon of Gapyeong County. Groundbreaking for the park took place in March 2005, and construction proceeded with investments of KRW 7 billion from the central government and KRW 6.44 billion from the provincial government.

Major facilities include: a pine nut exhibition hall, woodworking room, a slash-and-burn farming village (shingle-roofed house, log cabin), trails for forest experiences, a healing center, a healing forest trail, a meditation center, a wind-bath center, a qi gym, and a water healing center for forest healing.

The area in and around Chungnyeong Mountain where the Jat-Hyanggi Pureunsup Forest Recreation Park is located is filled with pine trees that are over 80 years old and reach 20 meters in height. The area is also widely known by the name of ‘Chungnyeong Pine Forest,’ the 7th out of the eight scenic views of Gapyeong.

The first of national healing forest to officially open to the public, the Gyeonggi Jat-Hyanggi Pureunsup Forest Recreation Park has some 50,000 pine trees emitting phytoncide, so it is well known as an ideal place for forest healing that is beneficial for environmental diseases such as rhinitis, asthma, and atopic dermatitis.

Gyeonggi Province has a plan to offer diverse forest recreational services such as forest healing, forest experiences, and wood craftsmanship experiences by creating a course of six programs including a forest trail hike, and also by making the Chungnyeong Pine Forest hall, a healing center and a pine-scented woodworking room ready.

The forest healing services provided include health check-ups, forest meditation, and health education; the forest experiential services include a mountain village experience, ecological visits, a pine nut exhibition hall, slash-and-burn farming village programs, and more. At the wood craftsmanship experience center, visitors can experience making bookcases, tables, chairs, pencil boxes, and benches. In addition, the Chungnyeong Pine Forest hall for pine nut characterization, as well as a replicated slash-and-burn farming village of the 1970s with a shingle-roofed house, log cabin, and a coal pit are available for visitors to see.
