The Gyeonggi Pyeongtaek Port Corporation carried out port sales activities to attract new customers and to secure port traffic volume in Weihai, China, from October 21 to 22 in preparation for the Korea-China FTA.
As part of the port sales schedule, the Gyeonggi Pyeongtaek Port Corporation first had a business meeting with the Weihai Port Group, which oversees development and management of Weihai Port, to increase traffic volume between the two ports and create mutually beneficial situations for both.
Representatives of the Gyeonggi Pyeongtaek Port Corporation then paid a visit to the Weihai International Passenger Terminal, which had moved to a new facility in June of last year due to an increase in cargo volume between Korea and China. The two sides discussed ways in which to further develop cargo volume between Pyeongtaek and Weihai after a presentation about the development of the port and its operation status.
After visiting Weihai Port, Gyeonggi Pyeongtaek Port Corporation representatives held an investment briefing session on cargo attraction to Pyeongtaek Port together with the Weihai Port Group at Bliss International Hotel for approximately 80 related participants including government officials, people concerned with Weihai Port logistics, members of the Korean Society in Weihai, local ship-owners, shippers, and representatives of logistics enterprises such as warehousing and forwarding agencies.
The CEO of Weihai Tian Shan Logistics Development Limited said, “As the Korea-China FTA approaches, trade volumes in vehicles and agricultural products are expected to jump particularly high among those traded between the two countries. Let’s strengthen collaboration and exchange beyond service trade partnerships and work together as strategic partners for new business projects such as port development, tourism and investment going forward.”
Gyeonggi Pyeongtaek Port Corporation CEO Jung Seung-bong said, “Pyeongtaek Port is growing at a rapid pace. As an ideal port for trade with China, it is playing the role of a Northeast Asian land bridge in the era of the Korea-China FTA. We will continue to do our utmost to offer better services.”
The Gyeonggi Pyeongtaek Port Corporation also signed an MOU with the Korean Society in Weihai for the development of both organizations in the era of the Korea-China FTA and for promoting the use of Pyeongtaek Port and Weihai Port.
In his remarks at the signing ceremony, Korean Society in Weihai Chairman Kim Jong-yu said, “I’d like to express my great appreciation to the Gyeonggi Pyeongtaek Port Corporation and Weihai Port Group for making this briefing session possible despite the difficulties. I expect that this cooperation MOU will serve as an opportunity for the two ports to grow and expand their exchanges further in the era of the Korea-China FTA.”
Starting with Weihai, the Gyeonggi Pyeongtaek Port Corporation is planning to expand its port sales activities proactively in China so as to increase Pyeongtaek Port traffic volume in preparation for the Korea-China FTA.
