Gyeonggi Province holds 2014 Regional Safety Council at Gyeonggi Provincial Police Agency
◇ Gyeonggi Province Governor Nam Kyung-pil invited the Gyeonggi Provincial Police Agency and the Gyeonggi Office of Education to cooperate in making Gyeonggi Province safe for all at the 2014 Gyeonggi Regional Safety Council held on October 27 at the Gyeonggi Policy Agency’s headquarters.
“If we work together with open minds, nothing is impossible. For a safe Gyeonggi Province, I suggest organizations start cooperating in all applicable areas.”
Gyeonggi Province Governor Nam Kyung-pil invited the Gyeonggi Provincial Police Agency and the Gyeonggi Office of Education to cooperate in making Gyeonggi Province safe for all at the 2014 Gyeonggi Regional Safety Council held on October 27.
The Gyeonggi Regional Safety Council, held at 10:00am on October 27 at the Gyeonggi Provincial Police Agency’s headquarters, was attended by 25 members of the council including Governor Nam Kyung-pil as chairman, Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Speaker Kang Deuk-gu, Gyeonggi Provincial Police Agency Commissioner Choi Dong-hae, OBS CEO Yun Seung-jin, and Exemplary Drivers Association Chairman Kim Gwang-ho as well as by 19 working personnel and 33 safety merit individuals, for a total of some 80 participants.
Governor Nam Kyung-pil said in his remarks, “When it comes to incidents and accidents, prevention efforts are absolutely crucial. Gyeonggi Province oversees one fourth of the nation’s demand for support public safety. Gyeonggi Province should also play a critical role in national security as its northern office is in charge of special public safety measures including the US forces in Korea.”
“For a safe Gyeonggi Province, selected as one of the 10 major tasks of the ‘Next Gyeonggi’ project, the province is focusing its utmost efforts on immediate disaster response, a reduction in the golden time, elimination of safety blind spots, safety precautions utilizing big data, and more. Please do your best to make Gyeonggi Province safe for all through today’s meeting,” he added.

Gyeonggi Provincial Police Agency Commissioner Choi Dong-hae said, “We should continue efforts to install and improve CCTVs that help curb and deter accidents and crimes. An increase in the speed of traffic signal systems was achieved by improving the signal cycle, decisively opening the shoulders of roads, and more. As a result, travel times in and around the Uiwang IC Logistics complex have been reduced by 20 percent, which is equivalent to an economic value of KRW 2 trillion.”
Focusing on safety issues in the aftermath of the accident in Pangyo, the council meeting introduced key policy measures currently being carried out by the province, including: ▲ reduction of the golden time from the current 8 minutes to 5 minutes; ▲ the Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) project; ▲ replacing CCTVs in taxies and operating the safe return project; ▲ installing partition panels in taxis, ▲ strengthening the regulatory and investigation efforts of the Gyeonggi Provincial Special Judicial Police Squad; and ▲ devising a response system in which police stations, schools and local communities cooperate to prevent violence against women and support victims.
Governor Nam Kyung-pil said, “It would’ve been possible to predict the accident in Pangyo Techno Valley if disaster data had been analyzed in advance. Accidents are predictable through the analysis of past data. Gyeonggi Province will create a ‘Gyeonggi Safety Map’ by utilizing comprehensive data about various incidents and accidents, and establish a preventative system by analyzing various data on safety accidents.”
After finishing the council meeting, Governor Nam said, “The Gyeonggi Disaster and Safety Division will calculate real disaster conditions on a quarterly basis for the operation of monthly safety drills so that they can have more productive meetings. The Gyeonggi Regional Safety Council should have discussions on predetermined topics, create true synergy effects thorough cooperation with other organizations, and continuously check operations so as to deliver concrete results.”
The Gyeonggi Regional Safety Council was launched in March 2008 to create a safe environment in the province. The governor, the commissioner of the Gyeonggi Provincial Police Agency and 25 persons are currently working as the chairman, the assistant administrator, and as members of the council.
