On January 14, the Korea Ceramic Foundation held a D-100 event to wish the 2015 Ceramic Biennale success

“We wish the 2015 Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale great success via a ceramic Wish Bell and Dream Balloons.”

The Korea Ceramic Foundation held an event at Gonjiam Park in Gwangju City, Gyeonggi Province, at 10:30 am on January 14 to wish the 2015 Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale great success. One hundred days remain until the biennale, which will be held from April 24 to May 31 in three regions — Icheon, Gwangju, and Yeoju. 

At the event that day, an unveiling ceremony for the official poster and the electric display board for the biennale took place with approximately 100 attendees including: presidents of regional unions in Icheon, Gwangju and Yeoju; Park Kyung-sun, the display director of the biennale; 40-odd children from the local area; and ceramic artists. 

The event was further highlighted by the creation of a ceramic Wish Bell with the children and by the release of 100 Dream Balloons into the sky.  

The foundation will also give out 2015 diaries up to 100 persons who visit and leave a supportive message for the ceramic biennale on its website (www.kocef.org).

Scheduled to open on April 24, the Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale 2015 will be held under the theme of ‘Color: Ceramic Spectrum— Traditional Color, Variegated Color, and Distinctive Color.’

The biennale will be held under the themes of: Distinctive Color in Icheon, which pursues new interpretation and broadening of the realm of ceramic art; Variegated Color in Yeoju, in which various types of life-enriching ceramics will be featured ; and Traditional Color in Gwangju, which explores the traditional values of Korean and East Asian ceramics. 

The ceramic biennale has completed ceramic artist selection for the special exhibitions of ‘Traditional East Asian Ceramic Art’ in Gwangju,  ‘Gathering and Diffusion’ in Icheon, and ‘Multi-colored Stories to Know: Ceramics of Life, Ceramics of Space’ in Yeoju.

The ‘Gathering and Diffusion’ exhibition, in particular, will feature about 54 ceramic works by approximately 27 artists from 13 countries including Korea, the U.S. and Japan. 

Of those artists, Forrest Gard, an American ceramic artist whose work spans genres ranging from interactive art to ceramic wares, and Toshiya Masuda, a Japanese artist who displays the properties of ceramic materials through variation of forms, are greatly anticipated. 

In addition, plans have been completed for the International Ceramics Workshop and the International Ceramics Symposium, and participants are being recruited now. The International Competition, after completing the preliminary image screening, is in the process of evaluating actual art pieces. Well prepared and organized, all major programs are set for the opening.
