◇ Gyeonggi Province hosted a meeting of the ‘Support Policy Committee for Alien Residents’ on March 5 at the Gyeonggi Institute of Research and Policy Development for Migrants’ Human Rights located in Ansan. A committee meeting aimed at identifying the support policies actually needed by foreign nationals including multicultural families so that they can safely establish themselves in Korean society took place in Gyeonggi Province. 

Gyeonggi Province held the Gyeonggi Province Support Policy Committee for Alien Residents meeting on March at 5 the Gyeonggi Institute of Research and Policy Development for Migrants’ Human Rights (GMHR) located in Ansan. Gyeonggi Province Social Integration Vice Governor Lee Ki-woo, relevant organizations, and experts were among the participants. 

Vice Govornor Lee, who chaired the meeting, said, “Foreign workers make significant contributions to our country’s economic development.” He added, “Increasing our capacity to accept diverse cultures and traditions is the true cornerstone for our country’s growth.”

The main functions of the Multicultural Families Division of the Gyeonggi Provincial Government and the GMHR were introduced at the committee meeting, followed by discussions on policies regarding foreign nationals and multicultural issues. Participants also visited the Ansan City Multicultural Family Support Center to review the programs they offer.  

After their visit, participants went on to the Multicultural Special Zone in Wongok-dong of Ansan City to listen to opinions in the field. 

The Ansan Multicultural Special Zone, which was designated last November, is currently home to 14,205 alien residents and has a commercial zone with 1,454 shops.
