Gyeonggi Province has decided to strengthen support for the installation of CCTVs at daycare centers so as to create a childcare environment in which children are happy and parents can leave their children with peace of mind.

In addition to national and public daycare centers, which already have secured the budget to install CCTVs, Gyeonggi Province will provide support for other daycare centers willing to install CCTVs within the province. To support this initiative, KRW 12.1 billion in Special Mediation Grants authorized by the Governor of Gyeonggi Province will be utilized.

Within the province, 3,365 out of 13,258 daycare centers (25.3%) already have CCTVs in place, and KRW 842 million has been paid out to 648 national and public daycare centers that plan to install CCTVs within the year.

In addition, the remaining 9,245 daycare centers without CCTVs will receive KRW 1.3 million each, which brings the total to KRW 12.1 billion.

At present, over 500 daycare centers in Gyeonggi Province have applied to install CCTVs. The relevant budget will be executed immediately after the first applications from private and household daycare centers are received.

Gyeonggi Province expects application numbers to skyrocket up to Thursday because the grant is set to cover a wider range or organizations.

Whether a normal CCTV or ‘Live-app’ CCTV will be installed, what the recording hours will be, and other details will all be determined by the operating committee of each daycare center.

Gyeonggi Province aims to introduce a cutting-edge system that incorporates the Internet of Things (IoT) with Live-app CCTV in each daycare center.

To propel this initiative, during a teleconference this morning with the deputy heads of 31 cities and counties within the province, Gyeonggi Province Governor Nam Kyung-pil asked for enthusiastic support from each region in participating in the installation of CCTVs at daycare centers. Governor Nam also conveyed his resolve to see a quick resolution with regards to the bill aimed at making CCTVs mandatory for daycare centers.
