The first Gyeonggi-do – Virginia State policy consultation meeting was held at 1:00 PM on April 2 in Richmond, the capital of the state of Virginia.
The delegations of the two sides were headed by Choe Hyeon-deok, Chief of the Economic Affairs Office of the Gyeonggi Provincial Government, and Trade Secretary Morris Jones of Virginia.
The two sides agreed to continue to cooperate with each other in matters concerning Big Data, provision of opportunities for SMEs to make forays into each other’s country, mutual investment, exploration of ways of cooperation between businesses and universities, and cooperation in social and economic matters.
Mr. Choe Hyeon-deok asked the State of Virginia to open a way for SMEs in his province to expand their business opportunities in the state. For his part, Mr. Morris Jones expressed deep interest in the UT Program adopted by the Gyeonggi Provincial Government for collaboration between businesses and universities.
Mr. Choe Hyeon-deok expressed hope that the session will go a long way in helping local SMEs expand their business opportunities in Virginia.
The annual policy consultation meeting was agreed upon between Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe and Governor Nam Kyung-pil during the former’s visit to the Gyeonggi Provincial Government in October 2014.
