– Provincial Support for the Additional Cost on Purchase of District Buses by Public Offices –

Five Korean electric hybrid automobiles will begin to run in Gyeonggi-do starting on December 16.

An electric hybrid automobile uses both electricity and petroleum as its fuel; it isn’t only a more economical model of automobiles, but it also is an environment-friendly one that cuts air pollutant emissions. The 1,390kg-heavy Click Hybrid features the maximum speed of 161km/h performed on a 1,399cc engine with a gas mileage of 18km/litre; it is much more efficient than gas-run Click (12.1km/litre) while emitting over 30% less air pollutants.

Gyeonggi-do plans to invest KRW4.3 billion to introduce 98 electric hybrid automobiles, 319 low-pollution automobiles, and 147 electric motorcycles in 2005. It will provide public offices with the subsidy of KRW28 million, which is the sum difference from the conventional petroleum automobiles, per unit for making the purchase of electric hybrid automobiles.

District bus and cargo companies that make the purchase of low-pollution automobiles will receive the support amounting between KRW2 million and 7 million. Dong offices and delivery businesses will be offered a subsidy of KRW1 million for the purchase of an electric motorcycle.

The province’s effort to better its air quality also extends to investment of KRW92.8 billion for emission filter installments and engine reconstructions. Test-drive of the electric hybrid automobiles is expected to greet the age of low-pollution into Gyeonggi-do.
