Introduction

The Ojeonggak is enshrined with the remains of loyal subject Kim Mun-gi, who was put to death alongside the Six Martyred Servants who failed to reinstate King Danjong during the 2nd year of Sejo of the Joseon Dynasty (1456), and also has the gate for his son Hyeon-seok’s loyal servant, grandson Chung-ju, great grandson Gyeong-nam, and the gate for great-great-grandson Yak-jeon’s devoted son.

Kim Mun-gi passed the civil service exam in the 8th year of King Sejong (1426) and served as Geomyeol, as Jeongeon, as the governor of Hamgildo (Old term for Hamgyong Province) and as a minister.

The current building is estimated to have been built in the 7th year of King Gojong of the Joseon Dynasty (1870) and went through repair in 1968, the dancheong was fixed in 1976, and the City of Siheung went through a cleaning project in 1981 to achieve today’s look. In the entrance is the ‘Ojeonggak repair monument’ built in 1983, with the inscription on the front of ‘Ojeonggak repair monument,’ and the inscriptions on the back and both sides detailing Kim Mun-gi and the five generation’s achievements, government posts, and their moral influence.
