○ Why are postal codes changing?
With the new address system in place (since January 1, 2014), the introduction of the State Basic District System means that the five-digit district number assigned to each district will be used for the new postal codes.
○ What will change with the new postal codes?
The first three digits of the district number (new postal code) is a marker that indicates whether the district is a special (metropolitan) city or province, and if it is a city, county or borough. The next two digits are serial numbers assigned sequentially by the particular city, county or borough.
○ What are the benefits of the new postal codes?
Delivery routes for postal carriers will be optimized to improve postal service, which means your letters/packages will be delivered more quickly and accurately. It will also make your life easier since all public organizations will use the same zoning number, thus making it more convenient for you to find different places.
○ Where can I easily find the new postal codes?
‣e-Post Office (www.epost.kr)
‣Korea Post website (www.koreapost.kr) and nationwide post office websites
‣Road Name Address information system (www.juso.go.kr)
You can find your new post code easily using the websites above.
※The new addresses are easy, precise, and convenient. Please use the new addresses.
