Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Province Council of Consumer Organizations will operate an outreach consumer education program at multicultural family support centers within the province from July 21 to September.
This outreach consumer education program for multicultural families was developed to provide useful information for homemakers in multicultural families who are unfamiliar with consumer culture in Korea while improving their consumption patterns and increasing their awareness of sales scams.
The program will begin at the multicultural family support center in Hwaseong on July 21 and in Uiwang on July 22. In September, the program will continue in Gwangju and then Osan. Subsequent sessions will be held at organizations that apply for the program by order of application.
The program will include: information for general consumer life including venues for consumption, payment methods and options; types of sales scams and case studies; regulations relevant to consumer rights and consumer dispute resolution standards; consumer responsibilities; and information on counselling organizations such as consumer counselling centers. In addition, an expert counsellor from the Gyeonggi Province Consumer Information Center will conduct consumer counselling on site for homemakers from multicultural families.
During the session held at the multicultural family support center in Hwaseong on July 21, Gyeonggi Province Council of Consumer Organizations Director Lee Ju-hong delivered a lecture under the title of ‘We are smart Korean consumers too’.
Gyeonggi Province Fair Economy Division Manager Kang Seung-ho said, “This education program was developed with the Gyeonggi Province Council of Consumer Organizations to prevent any inconveniences in consumption by multicultural familie, and to resolve issues swiftly once they arise.” Kang urged, “Those organizations that wish to have the program should apply to Gyeonggi Province’s Consumer Information Center (031-251-9898).”
