The free online education website operated by Gyeonggi Province, ‘Home-Learn’ (www.homelearn.go.kr), is exploring the idea of inviting not just sports stars but also professional instructors in all facets of life.
According to the Gyeonggi Women’s Development Center on August 4, the center has decided to expand the program to cover all facets of daily living given the success of last year’s ‘How-to’ series, a program conducted with sports stars that gathered more than 3,000 participants each month.
Well known sports stars including Lee Bong-ju (marathon), Ryu Seung-min (table tennis), Kim Hoon (basketball), Chang Jae-sik (golf), and Kwon Do-ye (health) participated in the ‘How-to’ series as instructors. In addition to the sports stars, three players from each of the winning teams of street basketball competitions in Suwon and Yongin participated in the basketball program while one male and female club member each in Ansan participated in the table tennis program. Having ordinary citizens appear in the lecture materials garnered fervent response from participants.
Having seen the success of sports lectures, the Gyeonggi Women’s Development Center decided to promote its talent donation program by inviting professionals, power bloggers, and Gyeonggi Province residents to participate as instructors and producing the necessary contents for ‘Home-Learn’. The center settled on ‘Give-Learn’ as the name for its new program and is expected to cover a total of 28 courses in informatization, living, and hobbies from August to December.
As such, the Gyeonggi Women’s Development Center has embarked on the process of casting expert instructors. As of now, Lee Hyung-taik (tennis), Jung Jae-sung (badminton, Olympic bronze medal winner), Lee Jeong-sik (saxophone), Professor Kim Gwan-gwon (automobile care management, Korea’s first automobile master craftsperson), Lim Cheon-su (makeup), Kim Mi-hyeong (calligraphy), and Professor Kim Seong-nam (Korea Nazarene University, how to use smart devices for disabled children) have decided to participate in the program.
In addition, the center will invite experts in various fields including the process of creating one’s own video footage, using SNS, foot massages, medicinal herbs, tarot cards, leather crafting, knitting, nail art, and candle making to bolster the contents of ‘Home-Learn’.
A Gyeonggi Province official stated, “We decided to prepare the ‘Give-Learn’ event to ensure the diversity of the contents for our online learning service aimed at Gyeonggi Province residents.” The official added, “The popularity of online learning among provincial residents is soaring with top instructors from each field participating in the program. We will continue to secure experts in each field and produce high quality contents.”
Gyeonggi Province’s ‘Home-Learn’ offers more than 800 programs to residents of all ages in a wide range of subjects for free including various certifications, foreign languages, children’s education, marriage coaching, later life living, investment, retirement, multiculturalism, travel, humanities subjects, employment/start-up, and computer lessons. It is the largest public online education service in Korea and attracts more than 850,000 users each year.
