Gyeonggi Province is targeting the 1.3 billion-consumer Chinese market with 70 promising export-oriented small and medium enterprises (SMEs) based in the province.
At 11:00am on August 6 (local time), Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Small and Medium Business Support Center hosted the opening ceremony for the 2015 G-FAIR (Korea Sourcing Fair) Shanghai at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC).
Special guests including Gyeonggi Province International Trade Division Manager Ko Bong-tae, Small and Medium Business Support Center Trade Support Division Head Bae Chang-heon, GBC Shanghai Office Chief Kim Ki-ryeo, Korean Consulate General to China Han Suk-hee, KOTRA Shanghai Trade Office Head Lee Min-ho, China Shanghai Council for the Promotion of International Trade Vice President Wei Chen, Nanjing City Industry and Commercial Union Society’s Qian Weibing, Shenzhen REED Exhibition Limited Company President Jiang Chengwen, and China Light Industry Arts & Crafts Import and Export Chamber of Commerce Handicraft Advancement Committee President Wang Zhongqi attended the opening ceremony.
A total of 70 small and medium enterprises from Gyeonggi Province, 30 more companies than last year, participated in this year’s G-FAIR Shanghai, the second such event, to seek opportunities to enter the Chinese market. Gyeonggi Province estimated over 1,700 Chinese buyers would attend this year’s event.
Shanghai, where the event is set to take place, is home to 25 million people, twice the population of Gyeonggi Province; it is the economic center of Eastern China, accounting for 20% of total consumption in that nation. The city is regarded as one of the most important centers for those attempting to enter the Chinese market.
Gyeonggi Province took full advantage of the expertise provided by the Gyeonggi Business Center (GBC) Shanghai for the 2015 G-FAIR Shanghai, focusing on the invitation of proven buyers with high interest levels in Korean products, thus facilitating successful contracts. Also, adjustments were made to the venue and schedule of this year’s event so that it would coincide with the Shanghai International Luxury Living and Interior Furnishing Exhibition, a popular exhibition in China, so as to enhance its effectiveness.
Gyeonggi Province International Trade Division Manager Ko Bong-tae said, “China has a population of 1.3 billion and is our largest trading partner, accounting for 25% of total exports from our country. With the FTA coming into effect, this is the perfect time for our companies to enter the Chinese market.” Ko added, “We will do our best to ensure successful contract negotiations for participating corporations.”
Lifecore Instrument CEO Lim Dong-won said, “Thanks to last year’s G-FAIR Shanghai, my company achieved great results and signed large contracts with Chinese buyers.” Lim continued, “Since Korea and China are ready for a close cooperative relationship economically, I hope my company achieves good results again this year.”
This year’s event ran for three days until August 8. For more information, please contact the International Trade Division (031-8008-4882).
