The Yellow Sea Free Economic Zone Authority (YESFEZ) invited a delegation from Rizhao City in Shandong Province, China, on August 18 to discuss fundamentals of economic cooperation.
Yellow Sea Free Economic Zone Authority Commissioner Jeon Tae-heon and 12 other participants including a delegation of government and corporate representatives from Shandong Province led by Rizhao City Deputy Mayor Xiong Bo discussed means to facilitate multifaceted exchange and cooperation between the two organizations.
Rizhao City in Shandong Province has friendly cooperative relations with Pyeongtaek City, and a passenger ferry is currently in operation between Pyeongtaek Harbor and Rizhao City. A YESFEZ official explained that this conference was initiated by Rizhao City, which seeks economic exchange and cooperation with YESFEZ.
In his opening address, YESFEZ Commissioner Jeon Tae-heon said, “In terms of physical distance or traffic infrastructure, Rizhao City and YESFEZ are both in an optimal geographical location to realize a win-win scenario through economic cooperation moving forward.” He urged cooperation in attracting investment in the area.
Commissioner Jeon added, “In particular, the Hyeondeok District in YESFEZ will be developed with capital from China, and offers an optimal living environment for foreigners including Chinese people with regards to education, medical services, and tourism.”
Rizhao City Deputy Mayor Xiong Bo said, “Joint cooperation through our ports will be possible for both areas thanks to the Korea-China FTA.” Xiong proposed, “Let’s promote strategic cooperative projects through multifaceted exchange between YESFEZ and Rizhao City.”
