Gyeonggi Province, together with the Korea Railroad Corporation, will provide ‘themed train’ services to support local festivals across the province.

Gyeonggi Province will offer direct train services from Guro Station in Seoul to Suwon Station twice daily on October 9 and 10 to support the Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival taking place from October 8 to 11. Gyeonggi Province will provide four different themed trains until November 2015.

The trains will be decorated inside and out using themes relevant to local festivals in Gyeonggi Province. The trains will serve their regular routes on normal days, but will serve direct lines to and from stations near festivals during the festival-operation period. Over 20 festivals with varying themes are scheduled until December this year in Gyeonggi Province, including the Paju Jangdan Soybean Festival. ‘Festival Themed Trains’ will feature information on these festivals.

Apart from Suwon, a train connecting Yongsan Station and Gapyeong Station will operate twice a day from October 9 to 10 for the Gapyeong Jarasum International Jazz Festival which will be on from October 9 to 11. For the Doksanseong Cultural Festival between October 16 and 18, a ‘themed train’ servicing Yongsan Station and Osandae Station twice a day will be available. During the Paju Jangdan Soybean Festival from October 20 to 22, another ‘themed train’ will connect Seoul Station and Munsan Station twice a day on October 21 and 22 as well.

Gyeonggi Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau Director Lee Jin-chan said, “We expect the level of attention given to local festivals to drop significantly because each municipal government has vital interest in attracting tourists.” Director Lee added, “We decided to offer the ‘themed train’ service in order to advertise festivals across Gyeonggi Province more effectively and to stimulate our festivals by improving accessibility.”
