The Paldang Observatory, located on the 9th floor of the the Gyeonggi
Water Resources Headquarters, has become a hotspot for aqua-tourism.

On January 25, Gyeonggi Province announced that approximately 54,000
metropolitan residents visited the Paldang Observatory in 2015. Among all
visitors, 76% said they came to the Paldang Observatory in their free time to
see the tourist attractions near Paldang.

The Paldang Observatory is an aqua-environment exhibition hall that the
Gyeonggi Water Resources Headquarters built in July of 2008. It features
various resources that teach people the value of water. People can also enjoy
an excellent view of Paldangho Lake from the observatory.

A key merit of the Paldang Observatory is that it offers a panoramic view
of Paldangho Lake, Paldang Dam, Namhangang River, Bukhangang River, and
Dumulmeori. As such, it has become a popular destination for families on days
out and for couples on dates.

Visitors can view the past and present of Paldang all in one place at the
Paldang aqua-environment exhibition, and learn about the importance of the
environment and water. The exhibition hall is divided into three themes: the
introduction, education, and promotion halls.

The introduction hall features an image of embarkation on a journey to
Paldang of the past aboard a yellow-sailed boat. The education hall shows how the
Paldang ferry appeared as part of everyday life and conveys information about
the history of Paldangho Lake as well as the animals and plants of the lake.

The promotion hall shows visitors a video depicting the efforts of Gyeonggi
Province to protect Paldangho Lake, as well as the importance of water. On the
first floor, there is a trick art photo-zone wherein visitors can take photos
and create memories.

The Gyeonggi Water Resources Headquarters will invest KRW 50 million this
year to renovate the slide show images inside the aqua-environment exhibition
hall. It will also select the eight best views of Paldang through votes by
visitors to the Paldang Observatory and hold an exhibition of the photos so
that visitors can enjoy an even more meaningful time.

A Gyeonggi Water Resources Headquarters official said, Not only has the Paldang
Observatory become a tourist attraction, it has also become an advocate in stressing
the importance of managing our aqua-environment to visitors.
The official
added,
We will continue to gather feedback from visitors and improve our
services so that visitors aren
t inconvenienced in any way.
