The Gyeonggi FTA
Utilization Support Center, which is supported by Gyeonggi Province and
operated by the Gyeonggi Federation of Economic Organizations, is seeking firms
that wish to join the 2016 Korea-Australia FTA Utilization Trade Promotion
Group.

The trade promotion
group has been set up to support SMEs across Gyeonggi Province that seek to explore
overseas markets but face difficulties due to a lack of expertise and market
information.

The Korea-Australia FTA Utilization Trade Promotion
Group will visit Melbourne and Sydney from April 17 to 23 to carry out
marketing activities.

The trade promotion
group will consist of 10 Gyeonggi Province SMEs that will be selected in
accordance with provincial evaluation standards. There will be no limits on
consultation items.

Costs incurred
during the trip related to the consultations, such as buyer consulting
arrangement, local market research, interpretation support, and consulting
office refunding expense will be supported. However, the firms must
individually cover their own airfare, living expenses, shipping charges on
exhibition goods, and taxes levied through customs.

Interested companies
can apply through the SME support portal site EGBIZ System (www.egbiz.or.kr)
until February 17. To apply, companies should register company information and
assessments.

The selected
companies will be announced through the
Gyeonggi Federation of Economic Organizations website
(www.gfeo.or.kr) and Egbiz System (www.egbiz.or.kr) on February 29. For
more information, contact the Gyeonggi Province FTA Utilization Support Center
(tel. 1688-4684)
.

Gyeonggi
Province International Trade Division Director Ko Bong-tae said, “Since
the consultation meetings are being held in the midst of decreasing exports
caused by weak domestic demand, we are looking forward to getting the most out
of this initiative and turning around the situation.”

The Gyeonggi FTA
Center plans to dispatch representatives of 60 companies to 12 countries this
year, starting with the North-South America Trade Promotion Group (United
States and Mexico) in March.

Australia is
the 12th largest economy in the world, and has great trade potential with
Korea. As the Korea-Australia FTA came into effect on December 12, 2014, tariffs
on the majority of trade items will be removed over an 8-year span, further increasing
the current trade volume of approximately USD 30 billion. Promising export
items include communication equipment, building materials,
electrical/electronics, petrochemical, food and cosmetics.
