Gyeonggi Province is recruiting contestants between
March 2 and April 1 for the National Multicultural Speaking Competition
scheduled on May 21.

The National Multicultural Speaking Competition has
been held every year since 2010 to celebrate Together Day (May 20) and
Multicultural Week. It aims to develop talented people that are globally
competent while also fostering happy families by improving awareness and
communication between family members.

The competition features two separate categories: the Korean Speaking Competition for married immigrants, and the Dual Language Speaking Competition for the children of foreign nationals (including
children from multicultural families).

The competition is open to married immigrants who
entered Korea after January 1, 2011, as well as to the children of foreign
nationals born between 1988 and 2010 who are currently attending primary,
middle or high schools.

The Korean Speaking Competition consists of a 150-second
segment per contestant while the Dual Language Competition consists of a 90-second
segment in Korean and addition to an additional 90-second segment in the
language of the contestant
s parents.
Contestants can choose their topic freely.

Qualifying rounds will be held on April 20 at the
Gyeonggi Provincial Government Complex using video clips submitted by the
contestants. Twenty contestants (10 for each category) will be selected in the
qualifying rounds and given the chance to participate in the final round. Those
qualifying for the final round will be announced on April 27.

Awards and prize money will be given to one Most
Outstanding contestant (grand prize; KRW 1.1 million each), two Outstanding
contestants (excellence prize; KRW 700,000 each), two Good contestants (participation
prize; KRW 500,000 each), and five Participating contestants (KRW 300,000) in each
of the categories.
