Gyeonggi G-News

On April 11, Gyeonggi Province
announced that it will open two Children
s Museums in northern
Gyeonggi

one in Goyang City and the other in Dongducheon City
in May and June.

The Childrens Museums in northern
Gyeonggi will serve as
cultural venues for hands-on learning for children and
families living in Gyeonggi Province
s northern regions, which have been isolated from
cultural activities in the past. Despite increasing demand for culture in
northern Gyeonggi, cultural infrastructure remains relatively deficient; in
particular, cultural facilities for children are practically non-existent.

In light of these issues,
Gyeonggi Province began a project to build children
s museums in northern
Gyeonggi back in 2011, and settled on Goyang City and Dongducheon City as the
two locations in September 2012.

The Childrens Museum set to open in
Goyang is located at 1003, Hwajeong-dong, Deogyang-gu. A total KRW 25 billion
went into the four-story building (three levels above ground and one level
below ground). Construction work began in May 2014 and was completed in March
this year.

The museum has ten exhibition
halls, all designed under a common thematic concept of
children who grow
hand-in-hand with the world
. More specifically, the halls will be titled: Ggothyanggi
Maeul (floral scent village); The World We Inhabit Together; Hello Earth!; Mulbit
Maeul (watercolor village); Baby Forest; Baby Trees; Ani-factory; Architecture Playground;
Art Gallery; and We Promise Your Safety.

In particular, Ggothyanggi
Maeul, where children can pot plants and flowers themselves, Ani-factory, where
children can experience how animations are created, and Architecture Playground,
where children can use model blocks to build and understand buildings, are
expected to capture the hearts of children.

The Childrens Museum in Dongducheon
is located at 162, Sangbongam-dong. A total KRW 19.2 billion went into the
three-story building (two levels above ground and one level below ground).
Construction work began in August 2014 and was completed in March this year. The Museum has nine exhibition
halls, all designed under a common thematic concept of
children dreaming in the
forest
,
and the entire museum was built to help children
feel like theyre on an adventure. More specifically, the
halls will be titled: Dinosaur Zone; Infant Zone; Climber Zone; Forest
Ecosystem Zone; Water Activity Zone; and Architecture Zone; they are designed
so that children can touch and experience the exhibits.

In particular, Dinosaur Zone,
where children can interact with their favorite dinosaurs, Forest Ecosystem
Zone, where children can learn the value of nature, and Architecture Zone,
where children can experience how animals build their houses, are expected to
capture the hearts of children.

Gyeonggi Province plans to
open the Children
s Museum in Dongducheon on May 4, and the Childrens Museum in Goyang in
June. However, the museum in Dongducheon will open provisionally from April 15,
and the museum in Goyang will open provisionally from May 5.

Gyeonggi
Province
s Planning and Budget Division
Director General Cho Hak-soo said,
The
children
s museums in northern Gyeonggi
Province will serve as rally points that inject some life into northern
Gyeonggi Province, which has been culturally marginalized in the past.
Director
General Cho also said,
They
are unique because they
ve
been built in a way to enable children to engage in various activities and build
family bonds. We hope the people of Gyeonggi Province will give us considerable
support and also visit our new museums.

The Children Museum in Dongducheon
was built with three levels above ground and one level below ground. In
particular, the Dinosaur Zone, where children can interact with their favorite
dinosaurs, and the Forest Ecosystem Zone, where children can learn the value of
nature, are expected to capture the hearts of children.
