Gyeonggi Province plans to
increase its Official Development Assistance (ODA) budget to KRW 2.7 billion
and pursue 13 ODA projects in 8 countries. 

Last year, the provincial government
established its 3-Year Master Plan to Advance ODA in order to expand related initiatives.   

Most notably, this year’s ODA projects surpass previous
methods implemented by NGOs in developing nations and reflect the strengths of
Gyeonggi Province as well as the demands among developing nations. As such,
they will be strategic projects to help Gyeonggi Province collaborate with
developing nations. 

In addition, Gyeonggi Province
plans to enhance the efficiency of its ODA projects by improving cooperative
relations between the private and public sectors, which will help integrate the
strengths of each stakeholder in terms of the local experience of NGOs, the expertise
of universities, and the technology of corporations.  

Moreover, Gyeonggi Province is
expected designate Indonesia, Cambodia, Mongolia, and Myanmar as key
cooperative nations in order to ensure the sustainability and efficiency of its
ODA projects.

First, in light of local
demand, smart classrooms will extend from the Mongolian capital of Ulaanbaatar to
other regions of that nation. This project will play a large role in utilizing education
in conjunction with ICT to help Mongolia develop human resources while also improving
the image of Korea.  

Second, an invitational
training project is being prepared to develop young and competent experts in ICT
convergence technologies in cooperation with Indonesia, a key ASEAN nation.
This project will also help promote exchanges between young ICT startups of both
countries.  

Third, an ODA project featuring
a new paradigm in creating stable business models, one that links fair trade
and increasing income by using appropriate technologies in local agricultural
villages where projects to increase income have been implemented, will be
promoted in Cambodia.  

Finally, Gyeonggi Province
will focus on strengthening economic cooperation through the invitational
training of senior public officials of the Ministry of Industry in Myanmar 

Gyeonggi Province Foreign
Policy Division Director Kim Gyu-sik explained, “From this year, Gyeonggi
Province will utilize an external consulting firm to begin systematic results management.
It will also create a system to realize incremental improvements and ensure the
stability of the projects. As such, we will promote our ODA projects
strategically.” 

For this purpose, Gyeonggi Province
will select an external performance evaluation firm in May and conduct
consulting sessions on managing project results. By doing so, Gyeonggi Province
plans to enhance the effects of its ODA projects.
