On June 10, Gyeonggi Province
announced that it will operate a Leadership Capacity Workshop program in four regions
of the Province in order to encourage non-Korean residents to participate more
actively in local communities.
The workshop has been designed
to improve the ability to establish future visions and communicate among non-Korean
residents who currently lead non-Korean communities. This is expected to facilitate
the successful integration of non-Korean residents into local communities and
contribute to their development.
The workshop will feature a
number of aspects to develop the working-level capabilities necessary for
managing groups including: how to establish a future vision for a group; how to
establish leadership; and how to write proposals as well as consultations and
more. The workshop will also include field trips.
In addition, the workshop will
be offered in four regions with high concentrations of non-Korean residents and
where marginal social groups reside: Dongducheon, Paju, Ansan, and Hwaseong. Twenty
participants including married migrants and foreign workers from each region in
Gyeonggi Province will attend the workshop.
The workshop will take place
on June 11 in Dongducheon, June 18 in Ansan, July 12 in Paju, and September 3
in Hwaseong. A total of four sessions will be held in each region every
Saturday.
At present, various community
leaders and activists in the Dongducheon region including leaders of a story-telling
club and citizenship-acquisition club have been recruited for the workshop.
Gyeonggi
Province is looking for non-Korean residents who will participate in the
workshops in Ansan, Paju, and Hwaseong. Those who wish to apply for the program
can do so through the Shinhan University’s
Industry-Academic Cooperative Group (031-870-3194), which is the auxiliary organizer
of the workshops.
