Gyeonggi
Province will introduce new transportation and interpretation services to help
foreign tourists experience Gyeonggi Province’s rural regions more easily and conveniently.
Gyeonggi
Province, along with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food & Rural Affairs, will
operate an agricultural tourism bus service so that foreigners can access Soomy
Land in Yangpyeong, which is a village in Gyeonggi Province, for agricultural
and recreational activities, and Pig Thema Park in Icheon.
Developed
to stimulate tourism among foreigners in agricultural regions, this service
offers a free round-trip bus service if the passengers pay a small fee for the associated
activities and lunch (within KRW 30,000).
The
tourist bus will run 12 times daily each for Soomy Land and for Pig Thema Park.
For Soomy Land in Yangpyeong, the bus will be available between July 23 and
August 28, while for Pig Thema Park in Icheon, the bus will be available
between September 3 and October 16. The buses begin service from Gwanghwamun
Gate daily at 8:00am. The bus service will be available every Saturday and on
an alternating basis for Sundays and Wednesdays.
At Soomy
Land in Yangpyeong, visitors can catch catfish, take a ride on a raft, be
bombarded by water cannons, ride amphibious tractors, and visit Yongmunsa
Temple. At Pig Thema Park in Icheon, guests can take part in a sports fair,
make eco-dolls, and take a tour around Seolbong Lake.
Foreign
nationals interested in the program can visit the exclusive website (exploreruralkorea.com) and register as a member to make a
reservation online. They can also make a reservation by contacting the call
center (1670-1417) for tourists, which offers English, Japanese, and Chinese
services.
In
addition to the program, Gyeonggi Province will begin interpretation services for
foreign tourists visiting agricultural regions in Gyeonggi Province.
If a
group of four or more foreign nationals visiting agricultural regions in
Gyeonggi Province requests interpretation service, the province will dispatch
an interpreter. The interpretation service can be requested by calling the
tourism company that operates the agricultural tourism bus service (1670-1417).
This
project is being promoted based on an agreement between the Ministry of
Agriculture, Food & Rural Affairs, 18 villages in nine municipalities
across Korea, and the Korea Rural Community Corporation under the slogan ‘Heart beat
of agricultural tourism’.
