From August 3 to 5, Gyeonggi
Province will host the ‘2016 English Village Culture Camp for Marginalized Children’ at the Gyeonggi English
Village’s
Paju camp.
This camp for marginalized
children is an educational program that was established in 2006. It is an
education project that aims to instill interest and confidence in English among
children from marginalized families in northern Gyeonggi Province.
More than 50 children are
expected to participate in this year’s camp including children supervised by Dream Start
Centers at 10 cities and counties in northern Gyeonggi Province, children who
are responsible for their families, children who use local children centers,
and children in the custody of child shelters.
Children who participate in
the camp will not only experience English, they will also come in contact with the
culture of English-speaking countries while also participating in various programs
such as cooking, rocket building, games, cartoon drawing, quizzes, masque
performances, script writing, and musical instrument making.
The entire curriculum will be undertaken
as part of a camp, and the province will fund the program.
Gyeonggi Province Welfare &
Women’s Office
Assistant Governor Lee Se-jeong said, “We hope that children can substantially improve
their understanding of culture in English-speaking countries as well as their
confidence in English through this camp.”
The Gyeonggi English Village’s Paju camp is a venue
in Tanhyeon-myeon of Paju City where people can experience English. It was
built in 2003 by Gyeonggi Province to help Gyeonggi residents develop global skill
sets and improve their English capacity.
