At 11:00am on September 6,
Gyeonggi Province Governor Nam Kyung-pil met Myanmar Industry Minister Khin
Maung Cho at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Complex to discuss measures to
facilitate inter-regional business interaction and to develop young
professionals.

The meeting was made possible
thanks to an invitational exchange agreement established between the two
regions during Governor Nam
s visit to the Ministry for Industry of
Myanmar last June.

During the Governors trip to
Myanmar, Gyeonggi Province entered into an agreement that outlined the
invitation of Myanmar Ministry for Industry officials in addition to other
senior level government officials to share effective examples of economic
development and promote cooperation in various fields including new and renewable
energy, ICT convergence, and education.

Myanmar Industry Minister Khin
Maung Cho and four senior officials of the Ministry for Industry visited Korea
on September 5 through an invitation from the Gyeonggi Provincial Government.
The delegation inspected key industrial facilities in Gyeonggi Province
including the Pangyo Startup Campus, Creative Economy Valley, and the Korea
Polytechnic University.

During their meeting, Governor
Nam asked Minister Khin Maung Cho,
What do you think of Koreas industrial economy now that youve seen
some of the key industrial facilities in Gyeonggi Province?

Minister Khin Maung Cho
remarked,
After seeing the curriculum at the Korea Polytechnic University that
focuses on developing outstanding professionals, I want to create a similar
educational system in Myanmar as soon as possible.
The
Minister added,
I visited Korea a decade ago and it
seems it has developed significantly. I think the growth engine behind such
progress is the development of experts through exemplary education.

Furthermore, Minister Khin
Maung Cho requested support in terms of design for an industrial complex being
built in the Thaton region of Myanmar.

Minister Khin Maung Cho said, We plan to
establish an industrial complex in Thaton and attract foreign investment as
well as domestic corporations,
The Minister continued,
But we want to develop young professionals rather than
depend wholly on foreign investment and focus on developing the industrial
sector of Myanmar.

The Minister also said, In terms of
creating a blueprint for the industrial complex, Myanmar is not particularly adept
at design. I hope Gyeonggi Province can help us in this area.

In response, Governor Nam
said,
I hope we can create a practical and specific solution to develop
Myanmar
s industry through todays meeting. The Governor added, Our province agrees with the Ministers
philosophy that
developing good human capital directly
influences future growth
. Accordingly, I think we can
reach an outcome that satisfies both regions.

Governor Nam ended the session
by saying,
Through the Startup Campus, Gyeonggi Province is developing young
professionals with technical abilities and imaginative spirits that fits the 4th
industrial revolution. I hope Myanmar can send talented youths to the Campus to
receive education and create new business models intended for global markets
together with other young people from across Asia.

Gyeonggi Province is
undertaking three Official Development Assistance (ODA) projects with Myanmar
including: an invitational program for senior officials at the Myanmar Ministry
for Industry; a school building and education program for 400 children in two
villages in Tachileik; and a children
s health education program for
rural areas in Myanmar.

The Gyeonggi
Provincial Government has conducted four ODA projects involving Myanmar since
2013 including the Yoattitjji high school building project in Kyauktan, Yangon,
and the Ayeyarwady Maubin development center project.
