Gyeonggi Province plans to
install Clean Bus Stations to improve air quality at bus stations inundated by
fine dust.
Gyeonggi Province will invest
KRW 2.32 billion to install 200 Clean Bus Stations by 2018. These new bus
stations are expected to feature air purification equipment capable of reducing
fine dust levels by more than 50%.
A provincial government official
commented, “Fine
dust levels near bus stations are as high as an average of 44㎍/㎥ to 97㎍/㎥ for PM 10.” The official further explained,
“If
we can reduce fine dust concentrations at bus stations by more than half using
Clean Bus Stations, we can effectively protect pregnant women, elderly people,
and children from such a harmful environment.”
Gyeonggi Province will install
80 Clean Bus Stations by 2017 to test the system and add 120 in 2018. In
addition, the provincial government will install the stations after analyzing
the advantages and disadvantages of closed-type Clean Bus Stations and
open-type stations with experts along with officials in each city and county of
Gyeonggi Province.
Clean Bus Stations will be first
installed in urban areas with high bus demand.
