Seventeen Asian artists and artist groups are exhibiting 23 works of art incorporating moving images in the 《Imaginary Asia》 exhibition, via the autonomous imagination of a variety of historical experiences that are shared by Asian people, so as to present the historical past based on their own experiences in line with contemporary artistic trends. The works of art have two different approaches to history. First, the works of art encompass the past and present of Asia as the East Asian artists express the historical identities of their own countries. Second, the works of art cover the present and future of Asia from a variety of perspectives. Some video works of art depicting countries that stand on the border between Asia and the West represent the harmony and conflict between the East and West. The works of art of the participating global artists convey a message suggesting that Asian history should be communicational and imaginational instead of just being written and recorded as the past and present of Asia. The exhibition aims to present various scenes of the arduous history of Asia through the artists’ individual works of art, with their liberal and open minds that demolish the borders of media, as well as their prudent, sensational, and creative attitudes.
