Gyeonggi Province’s Good Merchandise Fair (G-FAIR) will be held as an online exhibition for the first time. The online exhibition will connect Korean small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and foreign buyers.

On July 30, Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi-do Business & Science Accelerator (GBSA) announced that they would hold the 2020 G-FAIR in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, online in September since offline events are difficult to stage these days due to COVID-19.

An offline exhibition venue will be installed in Vietnam so that buyers can see products in person. Companies from Gyeonggi Province will meet with buyers through video conferencing systems at the event venue in Korea.

In a recent survey about Gyeonggi’s export support projects, 89% of 636 respondents indicated that they wanted Gyeonggi’s export support to shift to online video conferencing. In light of the survey results, Gyeonggi Province decided to hold G-FAIR online.

G-FAIR will be held for four days from September 22 to 25. Ninety Gyeonggi Province companies will participate in the fair and introduce their exceptional products in diverse categories (beauty/health, household items/kitchen appliances, electric appliances/electronics, and industrial/construction). Participating companies will promote their products actively in order to develop markets in Vietnam.

Celebrating its fifth year, G-FAIR Ho Chi Minh is based on the local networks and professional marketing of the GBSA’s Gyeonggi Business Center (GBC) in Ho Chi Minh City. G-FAIR has helped 337 promising Korean SMEs make inroads into the Vietnamese market over the past four years. To date, it has invited the participation of 6,365 Vietnamese buyers and arranged 14,099 meetings.

Vietnam, the venue of G-FAIR Ho Chi Minh, is one of Korea’s three largest target countries for exports and one of three countries with the greatest trade surplus with Korea. Vietnam is an important trade partner for Korea, accounting for 43% of the total trade between Korea and ASEAN member states.

Gyeonggi Province Assistant Governor for Economy Ryu Gwang-yeol said, “SMEs are struggling to make inroads into overseas markets. To ease their difficulties, we decided to introduce a remote fair that will be held both online and offline. Through the 2020 G-FAIR Ho Chi Minh, we will give our full support so that SMEs in Gyeonggi Province can engage in exhibition marketing activities and make inroads into foreign markets without traveling overseas.”

In addition, Gyeonggi Province plans to hold online G-FAIRs for Mumbai and Dubai as well so as to support market entry by Korean SMEs into India and the UAE.
