Gyeonggi-do is promoting eco-friendly agriculture to increase farming household income.

To promote this, the province will propel to reduce 30% the usage of chemical fertilizer and agricultural chemicals until the year 2006. Last year, chemical fertilizer amount of 340 kg per ha will be reduced to 240 kg in 2006 and the usage of agricultural chemicals will be reduced from last year’s 13 kg to 9 kg.

To preserve the environment and to produce safe farm produce, Gyeonggi-do will create an eco-friendly farming complex centered in environmentally regulated areas such as the water supply sanctuaries. A Direct Payment policy to maintain the income of farming households will be carried out also. Production of eco-friendly farm produce is planned to increase from last year’s 52,000 tons to 9,0000 tons this year.

In addition, to build an eco-friendly complex, 7 eco-friendly farms and experimental villages will expand non-chemical cultivation.
