14 Specialized Districts Reared as Tourist Attractions in Gyeonggi

Gyeonggi-do announced its plan on Aug. 5 to develop 14 tourist attractions for a balanced development and local economy between districts.

According to the middle and long period development plan, 1.17 trillion Won will be invested in completing the Goyang Tourism Culture Complex until 2010. Large shopping centers, condominium, hotel, Korean Folk Street, International Food Culture street and many for attractions will be prepared.

A ‘Hwaseong Dinosaur Ecology Tourist Zone’ will be created in Hwaseong’s dinosaur fossil area with an investment of about 390 billion Won until 2007. As the first step, a dinosaur science museum, marine museum, Sihwa Lake ecology exhibition will be built until next year and the second step of the development plan includes the construction of experience and leisure facilities in a dinosaur experience center till 2005~2007.

In addition, 12.5 billion Won will be used till 2008 to construct a Yangju Culture Tourist Village will a restoration of the house of Im Geok-jeong and a Yangju-Byeolsan amusement facility. And until 2010, 20 billion Won will be invested to create an auto-camping zone, family park, outdoor concert hall and other facilities in the Gapyeong gun and Namyangju si to develop a national tourist attraction. Until 2007, 5.8 billion Won will be used to open a ‘Barrack camping zone’ which will be voluntarily used as a tourist attraction in military training facilities in Gapyeong-gun.
