Gyeonggi-do plans to extend fishing village-based facilities by developing a multipurpose functional, ideal aquarium.
As the demand for weekend leisure is increasing due to the five-day week, Gyeonggi-do plans to provide experimental tourism to citizens. To fulfill this, the province has kicked off promotion to develop a multipurpose aquarium, which will provide fishery tourism leisure.
The development plan for the aquarium has been promoted since last year and to contribute to fisher convenience and activate local economy, Gyeonggi-do plans to invest 4.69 billion Won at national and provincial expense and overall progress rate is currently 60%.
An investment of about 19 billion Won will be used to construct ideal aquariums in main bases in Ansan, Hwaseong and Gimpo, which will be completed in 2006.
In these three districts, multipurpose local aquariums and also fishing village tourism will be developed with breakwaters, water farms and other facilities.
Through the activation of fishing village tourism and the construction of a production basis for aquatic products based on the increase in tourists, last year’s number of tourists totaled 2.15 million and it is expected to double to 4.4 million this year and greatly increasing income.
