Garbage recklessly thrown away five years ago, are now being recycled and 60% of recycled garbage are reused.

On 22nd, according to Gyeonggi-do, in 1996, garbage that were thrown away from houses and restaurants were reclaimed (87%) and became the main reason for earth pollution, but nowadays, 60% of the garbage are recycled into valuable resources.

Garbage rate per one person that takes up 25% of all living wastes have reduced 0.29kg each year after 1996 (0.29kg) and by 2001 it reduced to 0.0228kg.

Also, garbage processing has developed by reclamation of 87%, 9% for burning, 4% recycled in 1996, but in the year 2001, reclamation takes up 22%, 20% for burning and 58% have been recycled into resources. This is a great turnabout of reclamation and recycling.

For this turnabout result has been achieved by the cooperation of private organizations and Gyeonggi-do and also by the change in residential awareness on garbage.

Personnel of the province said “Support for recycling garbage into resources will expand greatly and additional incinerator facilities will be established to protect the environment.” He also added, “This can not be accomplished without the help of housewives.” and Houses and restaurants should be at the head of separating trashes and reducing garbage.”
