5,557 New Plants Established Nationally during the 1st Half Year

According to the “National Factory Registration Status Analysis and Statistics” data of the first half of 2003 made by the Factory Establishment Management Information System (FEMIS), which is managed by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy and operated by the Korea Industrial Complex Corp., total of factories registered during the first half of this year, 95,152 factories, has increased by 3,294 (3.6%) from last year’s total of 91,858 factories.

Newly registered factories during the first of this years adds up to 5,557 and 2,263 factories reported the cessation of business or canceled registration.

Daily average of newly registered factories is 18.3 factories, which shows the increase.

3,074 (55.3%) factories has been newly registered in Metropolitan areas including overpopulated areas, growth controlled areas and nature conservation lands specified by legislations on industrial accumulation activation and factory establishment of the first half of this year. This has increased by the 2,485 factories (54.4%) of latter half of last year.
