Gyeonggi-do has started a campaign of collecting contributions of used PCs and sending them to rural communities. These computers will be used to attain information and knowledge on agriculture to raise the quality of life and competitive power.

Personal computers used by government organizations, public institutions, private organizations and other parties are collected by the Gyeonggi province and the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation (Gyeonggi Branch) and are fixed and distributed to farmhouses for free.

Donations are limited to used Pentium PCs or later which can access to the Internet and donations are received by the Agriculture Bureau of the province, National Agricultural Cooperative Federation (Gyeonggi Branch) and also by the Internet (PC2farm).

This campaign will solve the informational gap between provinces, farm villages and industries and the growth of the agriculture society is expected to greatly expand through an information-oriented basis.

409 used PCs have been distributed and 135 have been used to upgrade PCs in information education centers for farmers, making a total of 544 computers distributed last year.

An Internet site, www.PC2farm.org, is operated to be used to contribute the campaign and applications to donate unused computers will be accepted till Oct. 20.
