The government plans to rigidly enforce regulations on employers about hiring foreign workers to induce illegal aliens to voluntarily depart Korea.
Foreign workers who worked in Korea for over 4 years have incentives on the ‘Korean Exam’ required to reenter Korea according to the employment permission system which will be enforced starting next year.
Also, foreigners who cannot depart at this time due to medical reasons may postpone their departure according to international customs.
Under the superintendence of Prime Minister Goh Kun, the Policy Adjustment Meeting of Outstanding National Affairs was held on Nov. 8, in the Prime Minister office in Samcheongdong. Since 83.6% of foreign workers have registered for legal work permits.
Among the 120,000 who must depart Korea, about 7,000 has departed until now, the Korean government plans to accelerate this process.
An official explained, ” Rigid enforcement of regulations will control employment of illegal aliens and measurements to give incentives to those who voluntarily leave the country.”
After the voluntary departure period ends on Nov. 16, the government will either notify employers who hired illegal aliens with a fine for less than 20 million Won or a penalty equal to that.
